A Mr. Bat 0’Shea was once asked did
he ever give money to George Redmond. |
Bat 0’Shea |
I did. I gave him two hundred pounds once and
I told him to buy golf balls. Jays if you were playing golf with him he’d
spend the whole day looking for a ball. If it went into the rough, you’d
never finish a game with him. |
| |
Ahhh, yes. George Redmond, the man whose
motto could be: |
| |
Show me the money.
| |
Apart from the three hundred thousand
squirreled away on the Isle of Man, Mr. Redmond had nearly thirty thousand
pounds in spare change in his bathroom.
And the Tribunal thought he had several
thousand pounds hidden in a shed – But it turned out to be ‘The Shield’ –an
insurance company.
George had over twenty different bank
accounts and could remember accurately how much he had in each one.
Redmond |
The bank of Ireland, Raheny had seven pounds
in it for over twenty years. |
| |
When George declared: |
Redmond |
I’m a heavy saver. |
| |
He wasn’t joking.
Des O’Neill, Senior Council for the tribunal,
asked Mr. Redmond about accounts that were opened using fictional names and
addresses. |
| Des O’Neill |
In respect of the accounts with financial
institutions such as UDT and Credit Finance Bank, you were giving fictional
addresses; isn’t that right? |
Redmond |
I was giving…well, I wasn’t giving my home
address. I was giving addresses of - in the case I gave my - in the case of
Hollybank; that was a good friend of mine. I got his consent - I said: ‘can
I put it in your name?’ and he said: ‘yes’. |
| Des O’Neill |
Did you then use another friend’s account in
Northbrook – sorry: address in Northbrook Road. Crosby house was another
address. |
Redmond |
That is, he moved from Hollybank, the same
place. The same man, yes. He is deceased by the way. A very good friend. |
| Des O’Neill |
Did you also indicate at one point in time
that you had an address in Mijas Costa in Spain, in Calahonda?
Redmond |
I don’t know whether I ever used it - did I
use it? I don’t know. Maybe I did yeah. That was a cousin of mine. |
Des O’Neill |
Yes. The Credit Finance bank account, which
was opened on the 20th
of October 1987, gives your name as
Soirse Mac Raymonn of Villa la Torre, Piesis Bahos, Calle Malaga,
Citiode Calahonda, Mihas Costa, Espagna. |
Redmond |
That was my friend as well. He was a first
cousin - not a first cousin - a removed cousin. |
Des O’Neill |
The bank account that you opened with Credit
Finance in May of 1980 was one in which you had given your address as Oracle
Cottage, Alderwinkle, Northants, England. |
Redmond |
That is true. That was a sister in law of
mine. |
